Today I would like to introduce you to Andrew Guya. I met Andrew on my first mission trip to Kenya with Pastor OM Panicker in 2006. After two long flights we arrived in the city of Nairobi where we were introduced to a quiet soft spoken man with a huge smile who we were told was there to help us on our journey.

Andrew traveled everywhere we went helping in whatever way he was needed. He carried supplies, introduced us to villagers and translated for us so we could communicate. We later found out he had left his wife and two-week-old first born child to accompany us. At the end of our stay we were privileged to witness his ordination to full time ministry in a beautiful ceremony and meet his delightful wife, Doreen and his adorable son, Don.

Pastor Andrew chose a poor section of Nairobi to begin his ministry. He opened Grace Tabernacle Church to serve those living in darkness and poverty by bringing the love of Christ to all. This church now serves more than 200 people and is growing, especially among the youth who hunger for the hope of eternal salvation.

The church is a tin walled structure nestled behind gates on a busy, noisy city street which is full of dust on a dry day. When the heavy rains come it is a different story. Water rushes down into the sewers which overflow and seep through the foundation of the church into the inside of the building. People must walk through the dirty, smelly water to enter the church and it is difficult to keep children from playing in it.

“This water is not sanitary,” says Pastor Andrew. “We would like to raise the foundation and make it safer for those who attend.” “We would also like to expand the building to accommodate the growing number of youth who want to attend our programs.”
