Our Native American Team is busy planning another mission trip to South Dakota. This year, our destination has changed. We will now be visiting several tribal schools on the Cheyenne River Reservation. While the location has changed, the extreme poverty and lack of housing is still very much a part of their lives. When you add to that the extremely harsh winters, you have a people in great need.

We cannot change their world but we can offer help, one child at a time. It is our desire to offer every child that comes through our clinics a warm knitted or crocheted hat and their choice of a book they can keep as their own. For many of them, this is the first book they will ever own. This is your opportunity to help.

If you’d like to help by making a hat, you can click here: Knit Hat Pattern-for a popular pattern that one of our volunteers hascrochet-hat used.  You can also find another at this site here, or just search the web and pick your favorite! We have a goal of 2,000 pieces and are accepting hats in all colors, sizes and shapes for men, women and children. These hats not only keep people warm, they are a warm reminder that someone cares. If you don’t knit or crochet, please spread the word to your friends that do!

Donate a book!

We are also accepting new or gently used children’s and young adult books from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Please makebooks on shelf sure the books are culturally acceptable and do not contain violence or sexual connotations. No text books or encyclopedias. These books are for fun and to encourage reading, and make a wonderful use for books your children have outgrown.

Say a prayer!

While you are creating and collecting, don’t forget to pray for the future recipients! Indeed prayer is the one thing we can all offer no matter our state of health or finances and the one thing that we are confident that can make a difference.
